Animation

How Animation can Help You!

First we have to get some animation basics out of the way that you need to know!

  • 64% of people are more likely to follow a call to action if a video accompanies the instruction (e.g. fill out a form, complete a purchase).
  • It’s easier to make changes to an animation than to reshoot scenes in a video, giving you flexibility with your campaign to to make last minute changes and adapt the content for different uses.
  • Animation is fun and easy to understand, you can present mundane or complex information in a digestible, entertaining format.
  • Animation is cheaper than filming a good quality video! Compare the cost of hiring crew, equipment, talent and editors, to hiring one animator to work remotely and you’ll soon realise how cost effective it actually is.
  • Facebook posts with a video nearly doubles the engagement from users, compared to a static post. Sponsored Instagram ads are even higher, generating 3x more engagement than a photo.

Creating an Animation

So let’s say you’ve got a message to share, and we’re going to work together on an animation project. How does it work? Well the good news is, the hard work is lifted off your shoulders and put onto mine. You get to put your creative director’s hat on and I make the magic happen. You can read more about how that process works in this case study.

Getting the Most Out of Your Animation

You can use an animation in a variety of different ways, and I provide them in different formats tailored to where you intend to use it. You can run them as Facebook ads, Instagram ads, posts in your feed, embedded in your website, displayed on billboards, showcased at events – there are so many possibilities to maximise the usage you can get from just one video.

Check out this animation I created with the team at Foster for Salford for their ad campaign (you can read more about the project here)…

This was delivered in multiple formats, a subtitled 4:5 version for Instagram and Facebook mobile, a widescreen subtitled version, and another with no captions. Every format they could possibly need for their usage.

On the last count, the video has been watched all the way through 50,000 times on their Facebook ad campaign!

Kinetic Typography

There are many ways to stay connected with your audience without blowing your marketing budget, using kinetic typography for attention-grabbing social media content is just one of them!

This animation technique combines movement and text to translate ideas and feelings over to the viewer, in an easy-to-digest video. They are often used to visualise audio recordings or lyrics, and are particularly effective within social media stories in a mobile-friendly portrait format as demonstrated in this example.

Kinetic Typography can be effective both with and without sound, since around 80% of mobile videos are watched with audio muted! However, it’s always worth taking time to craft the sounds you use to compliment the text, since it heightens the mood and experience felt by your viewers who do choose to listen.
